Wedding Cake Trends That Are Too Pretty to Eat
Choosing a wedding cake may be one of the most difficult, yet tastiest, wedding planning decisions you and your partner will make. You’ll need to choose flavors, fillings and, most importantly, how you want it to look. Your wedding cake will be a focal point of the décor. It will make an appearance in several of your photos and be a lasting memory if you choose to have a cake cutting ceremony. Not sure where to start when selecting a cake design? Here are a few of our favorite wedding cake trends that are almost too pretty to eat.
Minimalistic/naked simple
The perfect cake for couples having a rustic wedding (or the ones that simply aren’t big fans of frosting) naked cakes are a simplistic, yet stunning, decision. Let the cake show through and add succulents, a cake topper or other accessories to act as the focal point in place of a decorative frosting pattern.
Small cakes
A large cake is not necessary if you are having a micro wedding or are not interested in having leftovers. Choosing to serve a small cake does not mean you have to miss out on intricate details or forgo a glamorous statement piece. Small cakes can be enhanced with three dimensional patterns or decorated with floral accessories.
Individual Cookies
There’s no rule in the wedding handbook that says cake is required. In fact, you can serve any dessert you want! Skip the cake and offer cookies if they’re your favorite. Or have your cake and eat it too by giving out cookies alongside a slice of cake or as a take home favor. Commemorate your special day with sweets decorated to match your wedding flowers, inscribed with your monogram, or with your wedding date written in icing.
Edible Pressed Floral
With you cake doubling as an all-eyes-on-me décor piece, you may want to go for a statement decoration that really makes it stand out. Have your cake serve as a floral arrangement by covering it in colorful pressed flowers. Just make sure they’re edible, so they can be served to your guests once the cake is cut. Choose a selection of rainbow florals or go with the ones that match your bouquets or boutonnieres. You can’t go wrong with edible pressed flowers.
